How to update a Microsoft Windows computer
What is Windows Update ?
The Microsoft Windows Update utility is used to keep your Windows-based computer up-to-date with the latest patches. It is a service offered by Microsoft, provides updates for Windows components. You should often need to patch security problems as soon as possible to fix whatever the problem is. There is an easy way to keep your Windows PC update and running smoothly. All you have to do is turn your windows update ON, and you'll get the latest security and other important updates from Microsoft automatically.
Turn automatic updating on or off

If you use automatic updating, you won't need to check for important and recommended updates at all. Windows Update automatically installs important updates as they become available. When automatic update is turn on, Windows Update in Control Panel will open and show your update status.

In the search box, type Update

In the list of results, click Windows Update.

In the left pane, click Change Settings

Select Install Updates Automatically(recommended)

If you turn off automatic updating, your PC will rarely if ever get patched. If you don't need Automatic update ON, then select Never Check for updates (not recommended)

Finally, click OK button
There are dangers either way, but for most people, the greater danger is in not allowing Windows to update itself automatically.
How to manually start windows update
If you don't use automatic updating, you should check for updates yourself at least once every week. Microsoft usually release important updates once a month. However, updates could be released at any time. Windows 10 update is part of System Settings, available from the Start Menu. Windows 8, Windows 7, and Windows Vista: Windows update is integrated as a Control Panel applet and is accessible from within Control Panel. If your automatic update is not yet turned on, you'll be guided through the following steps to do so.

In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.

If any updates are found, click Install updates.
